turkey-burgersTurkey burgers are a staple in my home, because they are simple, healthy, and delicious. My Grandma used to cook them homemade for my dog Bella for lunch on her George Forman Grill. Turkey Burgers are great for your pup, because the bell peppers (always be sure to serve them cooked or pureed to help with digestion) are high in Vitamin C, and the coconut oil (in small doses) can improve your dog’s skin and coat, digestion, immunity, and reduce allergic reactions.

Turkey Burgers

Serves 4

2 teaspoons coconut oil, divided

1/2 cup minced tri-color bell peppers

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

1 pound ground turkey breast

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 egg (beaten till frothy)

  1. Heat one teaspoon coconut oil in a skillet, and lightly sauté the bell peppers and parsley.
  2. Combine the ground turkey with all ingredients minus the remaining coconut oil. Shape into four patties.
  3. Heat the remaining coconut oil in a skillet over medium heat; arrange patties and cook until no longer pink in the center and juices run clear, about 4 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165°F (74°C). You can also cook on an indoor or outdoor grill.
  4. Serve the burgers atop Boston lettuce with your favorite vegetable trimmings (tomato, onion, cucumber, etc.) and a side salad. And give your pup his turkey burger (without toppings) sliced in his bowl!

Serving Size: 1 turkey burger for Mommas and 1/2 -1 burger for your pup, depending on size.
